CHAPTER FOURTEEN

FROM BEST TO WORST

“I’M SURE HE has his reasons, Patrick,” Sara said.

“But I’ve never seen him like this,” Patrick argued. “He has never asked if I needed backup for a mission before. He looked concerned for me.”

“Like I said, based on what you done told me about him, he must have his reasons,” Sara insisted.

“I mean, I understand this may be one hell of an opponent. But I think I can handle my own,” Patrick continued ranting.

“I don’t think it’s got anything to do with your skills,” Sara said. “There’s more to this than meets the eye. Maybe when you meet this prince, then you gon’ have a better understanding of what’s goin’ on!”

“Well, that’s why I made a pit stop here,” Patrick said.

“And here I was, thinkin’ you wanted to get your good luck on before headin’ out,” Sara teased. “Didn’t wanna push it by assumin’ you actually missed me so much ya wanted to see me!”

“You can read me like a book,” Patrick played along and shook his head.

“Oh, I can do more than read you, my chocolate mousse!” Sara replied.

Sara walked to where Patrick was sitting, straddled him and kissed Patrick with all that she had. Patrick responded in kind. They finished kissing, but Sara was still straddling Patrick.

“So, did you hear anything about this prince during one of your many travels?” Patrick asked.

Sara kissed him lightly on the lips. Such a hopeless romantic! Patrick thought.

“I heard that,” Sara said and pretended to be mad.

“Really!” Patrick said. “Now you’re listening to my thoughts?”

“Sorry, baby,” Sara said and lowered her eyes in embarrassment. “Didn’t mean to. I just tuned in and…” her voice trailed off.

“It’s okay, babe,” Patrick said and kissed her lightly on the lips. “Not that we have anything to hide from each other. But it’s best we don’t invade each other’s privacy like that in the future. Deal?”

Sara kissed Patrick on the lips and smiled.

“Deal,” she replied. “I’m sorry.”

“No worries,” Patrick replied and caressed her cheek. “Now, back to this prince. Heard anything about him?”

“Matter of fact, I did!” Sara replied. “He was, like many young royalties at the time, full of life and plenty of testosterone. But there was no doubt he was a true patriot; proud, pompous, defiant, but a true patriot.”

“So, what happened?” Patrick asked.

“I didn’t live in that kingdom until after his demise, though,” Sara replied, as she played with Patrick’s earlobes with her fingers. “But word on the streets was that he meddled with the occult and paid dearly for it.”

“So, was meddling with the occult part of his everyday routine?” Patrick asked. “I’d think that a crown prince like himself would be more concerned with the military and chicks, instead of messing with the occult.”

“True, but Natas was no average prince,” Sara said. “His best and childhood friend later became a high priest; the youngest ever, they said. His name was Dames or Damas. So, they grew up to become a powerful pair; a crown prince and a high priest as best friends? Talk about a recipe for mischief.
